Oaks Plantation Wedding
After a week of off and on rain, this past Saturday was a beautiful day for a wedding for Kristi and Colby at The Oaks Plantation, located just east of Montgomery in Pike Road, AL. As we made our last turn onto The Avenue of the Oaks, it was immediately clear the name fit perfectly. A row of tall oak trees, some with spanish moss hanging low, lined the long driveway leading up to the venue. Although there were many areas to hold a wedding ceremony on the property, Kristi and Colby had selected the rear area on the back of the property underneath a beautifully decorated floral archway. The chairs were lined up facing the center archway, with a middle aisle, that stood as the centerpiece of where the ceremony would take place later that day.
As quickly as we could, we unloaded our gear and began set up. Our minds raced with ideas about how we could capture all of the beautiful surroundings and we were excited at how well they were going to look on the wedding video. We placed one crew member with Kristi and her bridesmaids to film them getting ready for the day as their make-up was being applied. Another crew member hung out with the guys as they were getting dressed. Thanks to Debby of Deborah Michelle Photography for providing some pictures for this blog post.
For the pre-meet, Colby stood on the front porch facing away from the home as Kristi approached down the hallway. As she made her way to him, he turned around and their eyes met. The bride and groom will never forget that emotional moment because they will be able to look back at the video shot that day that captured every second as it happened.
As the ceremony time approached, the guests began arriving and were escorted by the groomsmen for seating. DJ Haygood who had been entertaining with music prior to the ceremony now began the processional song as the minister and Colby made their way down the aisle. They were followed by pairs of bridesmaids and groomsmen. The ring bearer escorted the rings down in a custom wooden box, as the flower girl trailed behind with red petals, then a sign followed which read,”Here Comes The Bride”. Finally, everyone stood to their feet as Kristi, the bride, was escorted by her father down the aisle to meet her groom. The minister led the couple through their vows and exchanging of rings to the anticipated moment of announcing them as husband and wife.
All the family, friends and guests quickly moved into the Grand Hall for the reception as the staff of 13th Street Bar-B-Q awaited. Once inside, they were treated to chopped BBQ, macaroni and cheese, baked ham, potato salad along with a favorite, sweet tea. Once everyone had enjoyed the food, the music started outside and Kristy and Colby were called to share their first dance as husband and wife. Next Kristi danced with her father then Cobly with his mother. Soon the dance floor got crowed as the music quickly got everyone moving on their feet. Everyone seemed to be excited to share the floor with the newly married couple and join in on the celebration.
The night concluded with the garter and bouquet tosses. Finally, all of the guests stood outside the front entrance with sparklers held high into the air, as the couple exited. A horse drawn carriage awaited as everyone cheered, it was a perfect ending to this day!
Congratulations Kristi and Colby! Thank you for allowing Rush Videos to be a part of your Oaks Plantation wedding. May God bless you both as you start this new chapter in life.
